Book Description and Editors

Double Star Astrometry: Collaborations, Implementations, and Advanced Techniques is an essential tool for the double star community; it contains information for many types of observers.  The advanced observer can read about cutting edge techniques like speckle and intensity interferometry, and multiple time domain observations, techniques which are becoming more and more accessible thanks to the proliferation of both large and small telescopes and the increasing accessibility of high speed cameras. The teacher who wants to implement a structured pedagogical introduction to scientific research can take the examples of student research in this volume as templates for their project. Astronomers interested in connecting with the double star community can read behind the scene's accounts of several institutions which bring together groups of double star astronomers; namely, the Society for Astronomical Sciences, the Double Star Committee of the French Astronomical Society, and the United States Naval Observatory. The observer who wants to try a new observing method can read up on tested techniques in speckle interferometry and asteroidal occultation, or can contemplate the issues hindering the implementation of intensity interferometry.

Double Star Astrometry  is suitable for an observatory library, classroom, or home bookshelf.  The editors want to inspire new collaborations and new research projects, and to encourage cohesion between the diverse groups of astronomers in the double star community.
